The Best Dresses at New York Fashion Week

  • The best surprise of New York Fashion Week wasn’t the donut tower at Alexander Wang. It was the weather. What has been in the past a miserably hot, 100 percent humidity week was breezy and cloudless, and honestly game-changing. It freed up the space in our brains that’s normally reserved for stressing over sweat-proof outfits or constantly searching for air-conditioned cafés to cool off in between shows. So not only was everyone in a particularly good mood, but they wore a lot of great dresses, too—printed dresses, shirtdresses, ruffled dresses, dresses over jeans . . . the by far most refreshing ones were the simple, comfy-looking frocks in vivid colors like marigold and Schiaparelli pink.

The trend was mirrored on the runways, too—so you know it’s going to stick around. Next spring, expect to see a lot of girls in Tibi’s lime-green dress, which had the feel of an extra-large T-shirt, as well as Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s fuchsia drop-waist style and Mara Hoffman’s breezy cayenne maxi. Until those collections hit stores in early 2018, you can get the look now with similar fall dresses in the slideshow above. They’re virtually seasonless, so you can wear them with flat sandals now, and with tights and boots next month.
